The non pillow top is 11 inches in height and the pillow top is 13 inches. The cover is made from 100% organic cotton.
The comfort layers consists of four inches of Dunlop Latex for the pillow top version or two inches of Dunlop Latex or the non pillow top version. The support core is made up of one inch of Dunlop Latex over eight inches of pocketed coils. The feel of the Avocado Green Mattress is that of a hybrid, so you'll get a lot of responsiveness and bounciness to the mattress and in the pillow top version, you actually sink pretty quickly through that initial two inches of Dunlop Latex, so you still really feel the firmness of that support core. The Avocado Green Mattress comes in at about a seven on the firmness scale for the pillow top and the non pillow top version is actually a bit firmer. It's worth noting here that they described this bed as a medium firm mattress and we actually found this bed to be quite firm. To test support, we look at the spinal alignment of each of our three sleepers when sleeping on their side. As you can see, the Avocado provides good support for our light and average weight sleepers and very good support for our heavier sleeper, Mari.

To test motion isolation, we use a glass of water and ask our heavier weight sleeper to move around the opposite side of the bed. The Avocado mattress performs surprisingly well for motion isolation given how bouncy and responsive the bed is. Our edge support testing of the Avocado mattress showed it to be very good for both sitting on the edge of the bed and sleeping close to the edge of the bed. As you can see, all three sleepers are held up nicely when sitting on the side of the bed. When laying close to the edge of the bed, none of our sleepers experienced the feeling of roll off. Using our 2D and 3D pressure mapping tools, we're able to take a look at how well the Avocado mattress relieves pressure on the body.
The Avocado mattress received a good score for light, average, and heavyweight sleepers. That said, given its firmness, you might feel that there's some pressure on your shoulders and hips if you're a side sleeper, especially if you're a lighter to average weight side sleeper. Now, let's take a look at the temperature neutrality of the Avocado mattress. Out testing found that the Avocado will sleep cooler than a lot of other beds on the market, given it's hybrid construction which allows for a lot of airflow throughout the bed. Now let's check in with our testing team. OK Charles, what did you think of the Avocado mattress? – I like the Avocado actually. I think it might be my favorite. – It's a little too firm. I felt like the looks are deceiving, it being a pillow top. But when I laid back, it felt like I sunk immediately and it was just kind of like a plywood. – It's soft but it's not too soft and then, it also has a firmness to it. Like there's give but it doesn't let you sink all the way in. Lets you get comfortable. – It has good edge support but I need a little more firmness in the mattress. I sleep between my back and my side and on my back, I felt like I needed a pillow in between my knees to keep me kinda stable. – Now let's take a look at how the Avocado stacked up in our mattress testing. The Avocado mattress has a more traditional innerspring feel than even a hybrid where you'll feel like you're floating on versus sinking into the mattress. It's very responsive and has a bit of a bounce to it. Remember, we found the Avocado mattress to be more firm than they advertise on their site. For support, the Avocado mattress scored good for light and average weight sleepers and very good for heavy sleepers. Motion isolation was good and edge support was very good. Pressure relief was good across all sleeper weights. Lastly, temperature neutrality was excellent for the Avocado mattress. A few takeaways from our Avocado mattress testing, if you're on a budget, this is a pricier mattress, so it might be out of your range. If you prefer a memory foam feel so you want to sink into a bed versus floating on top of a bed when sleeping, this mattress is not going to be the one for you. We recommend the Avocado mattress for back and stomach sleepers and we recommend this mattress for eco-conscious sleepers. Avocado puts a lot of care in the components that you use and it's a very eco-friendly mattress. Here's some additional information to consider before buying an Avocado mattress.
